René Pearce / Eileen Alice McLellan 1938-2007

My friend René Pearce passed away tonight at the age of 69.

Born "Eileen Alice McLellan" in Canada, she moved to the US in 1959 and became an American citizen in 1967. She led a fascinatingly varied life which I learned a little about as I got to know her.

She had a stroke on Wednesday May 30 and was admitted to UCLA Medical. She rested peacefully in the hospital and died June 11, 2007 at 11PM.

She was a spitfire and a remarkable character - I'm glad to have known her.

This is a memorial website for her friends and family to share stories about her.

Thank you for visiting.

God blessed me with having a twin sister. Eileen Alice McLellan. Once one and then we were two. I don't know if He thought I would be lonely...so He created someone who would stick beside me through thick and thin, good times and bad, always my protector. Being a twin meant you had your best friend right beside you, you the tomboy, me the quiet one. We would cry on each other when our hearts would not mend. What a blessing you were, a sister to love. It used to be that we could not stand to be apart. I fondly remember our hands touching through the glass when I went to the hospital because you came down with Scarlet Fever. The Doctor said you needed to be with me in order to calm down…and you did. But we got older and our lives had new starts, yours in California, you becoming a proud American. Even though we were miles apart and had not seen one another for the past 28 years, I have fond memories of the visits we had and am grateful that we stayed in touch. Even though we were in our own separate worlds, you were never far away. There was and always will be a part of you within my heart and in my soul. During your recent struggles a Guardian Angel named Miria came into your life and helped you up off your feet. Good friends like Glen who knew you well enough to know there was something wrong when you weren’t being a spitfire and getting you to the hospital. The Neurology Staff of the UCLA Hospital, in particular Dr. Miller, Dr. Vasbar and the Nursing staff. I will be be forever grateful for the kindnesses and the exceptional care you provided to my sister, my twin.

"I have an Aunt that lives in California, she's my mothers twin!", I used to tell my friends. Talks of a visit with my mother and your neice Lyndsay, you could finally meet, were taken away. I am sad. Too many years since we saw one another, fond memories will continue to be kept alive through long talks with my mom. I'm sorry our lives did not cross paths, I understand I missed getting to know a strong, remarkable woman. You will forever leave proud and warm memories in my heart.

I am the daughter of Rene's sister the late Shirley Kennedy. I did not get the chance to go to California to visit Rene', but didn't miss the opportunity to meet her when she came to Toronto in 1985. I am glad that I have that happy memory of her in my heart forever.

Rene became a friend while living at Samoshel. We created a friendship first over our mutual love of reading. We discussed many books and Rene expressed her opinion on each and every one. Rene was quick to let you know what she thought of you and why. Rene was not crazy about most people but I saw how much she loved Sami her cat. Rene would sometimes tell me stories about her past. This woman led a remarkable life. I am proud that Rene chose me to be her friend. She was a strong woman and an inspiration to all women. Rene I hope heaven has cats and books abound, you will be missed.

Eileen/Rene is sadly missed by her eldest sibling Jerry McLellan and his extended family from Toronto Canada. Many years have passed since I saw you last, but you were and always will be my little sister. Our memories shared will never be forgotten.

God Bless Love Jerry
